Yes - if you roll the dice on R230 and get lucky, then it is one hell of a ride for a steal. 911s, for example, hold value much better than R230s. The R230 has a tandem pump that operates both the ABC and the Power Steering system. A new pump is $1360 from Genuine Mercedes and even a used specimen will fetch upwards of $700 at a junkyard. Luckily for you, once the conversion is completed there is no need for a tandem pump anymore. The other approach is to replace the tandem pump with a power steering pump from any V8 Mercedes of that time period that was available without ABC. So if you have a 2005 SL500, get a PS pump for an S500 or ML500 without ABC. VVK Suspension sells a PS pump for V8 R230s for $150; Rebuild Master Tech also has one, but it's more expensive.
